VA Birders:
Live a little! Bird in the "north country" just across the great river!
Catch the birding excitement at the 58th Annual Conference of the Maryland
Ornithological Society, which is quickly approaching. This action-packed
birding activity is on the Memorial Day Holiday weekend -- from Saturday May 24
through Monday May 26 -- and will be held in Potomac, Maryland, at the Bolger
Center, a short distance from the River Rd. exit from the Washington Beltway.
Linda Friedland, our field trip guru, has put together a superb schedule of
field trips to the premier birding locations of the region, including noted
Virginia sites such as Banshee Reeks, Dyke Marsh, and Huntley Meadows. But why
not also get acquainted with the great birding places we Marylanders have here
in Montgomery, Frederick and Howard Counties, the District of Columbia, and a
few sites farther afield? You'll enjoy it and we'd love to have you. Field
trips run on three separate days.
This year our Saturday evening Keynote Speaker is Kenn Kaufman, who will also
lead a Saturday afternoon workshop and hold a book signing after the keynote
speech, so don't forget to bring your copies of his books. Other workshops
include a Sparrow Identification Workshop by Howard County's Bonnie Ott and a
Dragonfly Workshop by Richard Orr.
Conference registration is open to anyone; you don't have to be an MOS member
or resident of Maryland to attend.
