I tried in vain to see the MOURNING WARBLER at Wakefield Park in Fairfax
County at mid-day today. I thought I heard it sing briefly in the dense
brush next to the power substation north of the tennis courts, but never got
a look at the bird. However, I was not disappointed with my trip, as I got
excellent looks at both a bright male BALTIMORE ORIOLE and an ORCHARD
ORIOLE, and an INDIGO BUNTING kept chipping at me and following me as I
walked up and down the trail. Then a male COMMON YELLOWTHROAT did the same;
he seemed to be showing off his hunting skills by coming near me each time
he caught a caterpillar.
