While birding at Chincoteague this weekend, we had a WHITE FACED IBIS on
Sunday afternoon May 4. The bird was in a flock of Glossy Ibis, along the
wildlife drive between the Marsh Trail and the Service Rd for the wash
flats. After finding the bird with our binos, we hurried back to the car
for the scope. After some searching, the bird came out into the open and
preened in the sunlight for us to get a good look. The red facial skin was
clearly visible, the wide white band and went all around the face and behind
the eye. The legs were red but not easily seen in the grass. The bird was
observed in sunlight between 1:30 and 2:30 PM.
A full trip list will follow, we ended with around 110 species for the
weekend.
