I ran into Val Kitchen and the group she mentioned yesterday morning and also
saw the Uplands Sandpipers, though the distance and heat made it very difficult
to see them well. On my return from a hike in Shenandoah Natioanl Park, I
returned to the farm and found a spot along 651 with a closer view. I had nice
views through the scope and counted 10 birds!
I observed 4 standing tall in the typical upland pose. The others kept their
head down, but were of the same size and with the same length bills (all gaped
open from the heat!) All were moving together in the same general area.
