Sue and VA Birders,
Anyone going to Thompson WMA in the next few weeks (sorry, I don't know
the exact dates), should be aware that a spring Turkey Gobbler hunting season
is planned there. As a result of a notice posted at the Trillium Trail
parking lot, which was reported to me by a couple of our birders, I contacted
the VA Dept. of Game & Inland Fisheries (VDGIF), to inquire about the notice
in regard to our NVBC bird walk, which is scheduled for May 10. I received a
response from a Jerry Sims at VDGIF (his e-mail is: simsj@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx),
advising us that hunting would be going on that morning, and telling us where
we could go and should not go. Anyone who is planning to venture very far
into Thompson might want to check with Mr. Sims to be sure they won't be in
range of the turkey hunters.
