[va-bird] Re: Texas birding

Hi Sandy and John,

I've just recently moved to southeast Virginia from
the Big Bend area of southwest Texas. For Big Bend
National Park birding, you might try contacting Dr.
Alan Tennant (alan@xxxxxxxxxxxx or 915-386-4119).
He's a very knowledgeable and friendly man who really
knows and loves Big Bend area birds and nature, and
he's also a long-time V.E.N.T. international
birding/nature tour leader as well, AND he lives just
down the road from a great local birding spot/"oasis"
called Fort Pena Park(or "The Post") in the little
town of Marathon on the way down to Big Bend! Alan
might be able to give you more info and/or a personal
birding tour, or direct you to others who can offer
additional local birding info.

Also, you can go to the www.bigbendbirders.org
website. There you can review the local bird
sightings reports and area birding info, and
you can email a message to the group to connect
with other local area birders who probably would
be glad to help out as well (email address:
bigbendbirders@xxxxxxxxxxxx). You might also want to
check out birding in the Davis Mountains State Park
area north of Alpine.

For other areas of Texas, I suggest reviewing the
various websites on Texas birding (there are many
listed if you do a search at www. google.com) and
maybe posting an email to the state TEXBIRDS e-list
(listserv.uh.edu/archives/texbirds.html) to
connect with Texas birders from other parts of the
state who can provide additional suggestions.

Hope this info will be helpful to you!,
Jeanette Scott
