We saw a flock of about 10 Barnacle geese on Egypt Rd on the drive into
Blackwater NWR on Sat Jan 12 at aabout 10:00 am. We did not count them
precisely because at the time we did not realize that seeing a flock of
the Barnacles was so unusual-- we did not know that people were mostly
seeing a single Barnacle goose. We later saw the Barnacle Goose that
has been seen by many birders in Alexandria on Feb 2 while on a bird
walk with some excellent birders from the Alexandria Wild Bird Center.
We were able to confirm that the geese we saw on Egypt Road were the
same species. We have reported this to Phil Davis of the MD-DC Recoreds
Committee. Ellie and Walt Simonson Allen Hart wrote:

I spent a bit of time tonight reviewing the sightings of Barnacle Geese in
the Rare Bird Alert
archives for Birdeast.
The following summarizes the sightings I found in the archives. I then
created a timeline of the
sightings. Based on the timeline, there had to be at least five different
birds to account for the
east coast sightings.
To see the timeline properly you need to use a fixed width font (like
Courier).
