Greetings,
I have been watching reports on the Virginia List Serve about the Snow Owl
and finally got an opportunity to go check it out yesterday afternoon. I
arrived about 5:00 PM and stayed until 5:45. I followed Susan Heath's
directions and had no trouble finding the garage and the Owl. As if on cue, he
was sitting on the pole to the right of the Y just waiting for my co-worker and
myself to find him. It was great, and I got a good look at him with my scope.
This was a life bird for me. What a beautiful creature!
He flew down to the grassy area for a brief time, and then flew back up to
the same pole. Just before he left, he flew to a pole a little closer to the
Post Office building and that is where he was when we left about 5:45.
Thanks to Susan who gave great directions and to all the others who shared
their sightings.
Happy birding,
