Hello, birders.
Jodi Bucknam and I observed the SNOWY OWL at Dulles Airport this morning. We
parked near the top level of the garage located at Aviation and Propeller at
7:30am and walked to its SW corner. We quickly found the owl perched on top of
a distant lightpost. He was still there at 8:15 when we left. He seemed
alert, turning his head often to look around.
The bird was perched on the last lightpost way to the south of the parking
garage. This last light post is to the right of a building marked D27 but it's
even farther away than this building. We figured it must have been 3/4 to a
mile away.
This was my second time seeing this bird. The owl was a lifer for Jodi.
Thank you to whoever found this bird and thank you to Sue Heath for posting it
and giving such good directions to the garage. And a big thank you to the
operations people who are so graciously permiting birders to look for the owl.
