As we have for the past several years, the Roanoke Valley is again playing
host to a selasphorous hummingbird, this time in Blue Ridge at the home of
Vikki and Mike Tomlinson. Several Roanoke Valley Bird Club members went to
the Tomlinsons' home this afternoon to see the bird. Although we got good
enough looks to see that it is an adult male selasphorous, it never showed
us its back well enough to see if there was any green on it. But Vikki and
Mike both say that they have gotten better looks and that the bird's back is
all brown, so we believe it is an adult male rufous.
The Tomlinsons welcome any visitors who would like to stop by. They can be
reached at 540-977-1634.
