Power was out for a few days, so I was unable to post, or to hear what others
saw in the Richmond area. Amazing to see the post about the tropicbird sp.
seen from I-95!
On Friday morning I went to Swift Creek Reservoir in Chesterfield County. I
arrived about 0645 and stayed till 9, but saw very little after 0800. Viewing
spots are few as most of the property is private. Many of the terns were just
too far away to ID. However I did get great looks at 2 Wilson's Storm Petrels.
It was great studying these birds through a scope from terra firma! I also
saw Royal, Caspian, Common , and Forster's Terns. I saw two additional
dark-backed terns with long forked tails, slightly larger than the Forsters,
but they were too far from me to separate Sooty/Bridled.
