I just got back an hour ago (4:20 p.m.) from Metz Wetlands, where I missed
the Harris's Sparrow, but when I got back home, my husband casually mentioned
that I'd just missed seeing a hummingbird on our feeder. He said the bird was
really tanking up at 4:00. In shock, I ran to get the scope and binocs and set
them upstairs to await the hummer. At 4:30, a possible female (imm.?)
Rufous/Allen's fed briefly on the feeder. In the waning light, I was able to
see the
orange flanks, a bit of orange in the tail, a spotted throat, and wingtips
extending just slightly past the wingtips. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a
better
look tomorrow, if it's here. I'll post if I see it, of course. It's funny
because this morning, my husband was asking me when I planned to take the
hummer
feeders down. I said "NOT YET!"
