After being quiet since last Sunday, the Riverbend Pk. meadow was somewhat
more active this Friday morning. A small wave of warblers included single
observations of Blackburnian, Black-Thr.Green, Canada, Magnolia and Overbird,
plus
about 8 Common Yellowthroats. There were also Indigo Buntings (most in lbj
plumage) and Red-eyed Vireos in good numbers.. Other birds seen included B-G
Gnatcatchers, Scarlet Tanagers, Baltimore Oriole, the cooperative Y-B Cuckoo
which has been around for the past few weeks, House Wrens, R-B Hummingbirds,
Eastern Peewees, and Flickers, in addition to the usual resident birds. A
Broad-winged flying overhead stilled foraging for a bit. Also a marauding
flock of
about 200 Common Grackles touched down for a short while.
The most productive area in the meadow for the migrants remains the stand of
trees on the western border along Jeffery Road for an hour or two after the
morning sunlight touches the trees shortly after 7 AM.
On Thursday morning there was a noticeable wave of Great Crested Flycatchers
but none were present today.
