Greetings,
After spending part of the morning checking out some of the frozen to mostly
frozen ponds in Fauquier Co.(Harrison Rd., Belvoir Rd., North Fork Wetlands,
Silver Lake, and Thompson WMA Lake) for Red-necked Grebes with no success, I
gave up the ship and drove back to Manassas. I stopped by the pond behind the
Comfort Suites in Manassas, just off Rt. 234 (Williamson Blvd.) and just
south of I-66 and was blown away to see FOUR RED-NECKED GREBES! I was
looking for the Redhead pair, but instead, came up with R-n grebes. They
looked so out of place in that smallish pond. I had such nice, close views
unlike the more distant views of these birds at the sewage plant in
Centreville. Here amidst the hustle and bustle of Manassas were some out of
town birds for sure.
Check your local ponds..you might be surprised!
