VA Birders,
About mid-morning, while I was talking to Fort C. F. Smith Park Manager
Scott Deibler, who is also a birder, we saw an adult Red-headed Woodpecker fly
into a nearby tree. Unfortunately, it only stayed there briefly, but I was
able to get a quick look with my binoculars to confirm that it had a red head
in
addition to the white wing patches we saw when it flew in. Other highlights
among the 32 species I saw at the park today were Chestnut-sided and Magnolia
Warblers, and a Red-eyed Vireo that actually stood in the Bird Stream long
enough to get a couple of drinks.
