BJ Westervelt and myself drove up to Reddish Knob in Augusta Co. after a
pleasant visit at Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch.
We enjoyed a very nice hawk flight, albeit for a very short time, before the
COLD and rain set in. Between 3:15 and 3:45 we saw the
following:
SS - 2
BW - 92
RT - 5
ML - 1
Raven - 8
Some birds were at a distance, but a good number were "up close and personal".
Other birds:
Juncos - 6
Blue-headed Vireo - 1
Blackpoll Warbler - 1
GREAT spot for a hawk watch, although it's a bit of a trek to get there. We
hope to return. For those who have never seen that
stupendous 360 degree view, just GO! But if it can get that cold in Sept, I can
only wonder how bad it is in Nov! But hey, I'm from
Minnesota!
Lastly, thanks to a stooping-rocket (but well fed) RT, there is probably 1 less
Gray Squirrel in West VA.
