Observed a Purple Finch on Rt. 605 in Clarke Co. near where the Appalachian
Trail crosses the road.
Yesterday there was a female Red-breasted Merganser on one of my neighbor's
farm ponds in western Loudoun County (the western edge of the Piedmont). While
it wasn't there today there was one on the Shenandoah River a little south of
where Rt. 7 crosses the river (in the ridge & valley).
Was delighted to watch a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird doing a display flight
yesterday evening & immediately thereafter mate. Immediately afterwards the
female visited my feeder.
