but its terns too! It is an absolutely wonderful birding opportunity! Make
the most of it.
Also go to the Alabama Gulf Coast and the FT. Morgan banding station and
watch the Hummer/ Bird Study Crew do it's thing. Any birder in Pensacola can
give you directions! Say hello to the Big guy for me too....Bob Sargent.
There are more birds than you can shake a stick at thru-out that area.
You'll think you died and have gone to heaven during migration!

Hi folks,
Laura Catterton and I went to the landfill this morning and met up with Mike
Iwanik, who was already there. There were 2 first-winter Glaucous Gulls at
the dump. The first sighted was the "wheat-flour" colored one, which was
appropriately humongous and pale. We kept scanning, of course, especially
since
Mike thought he might have had a California Gull
but wanted another look. They Mike and Laura both said the had the Glaucous;
I followed their directions, and lo and behold there was Wheat-colored again.
But as I was looking at him I noticed another Glaucous lifting off . This
one was the very white bird and the one that Laura and Mike had spotted. Both
birds in the same scope field at once!! Now, that's great!
Also, there were more Great Black-backeds than there have been, plus 3
Lessers.
That was it for the day. It was also the last visit for the Lady of the
Landfill/Duchess of the Dump, Laura Catterton. It's with a sad heart we see
her
off to a new world. Pensacola
is not known for its gulls, but I'm sure she'll find something to occupy her!
