VA Birders,
Seven members of the Buchanan County Bird Club met this morning to bird
Poplar Gap Park, a small mountain-top park not far from Grundy, VA. Not many
birds were moving on this cool, windy and cloudy day.
The highlight of the day was an OSPREY that suddenly appeared from down in
the valley and glided over the field, only a few feet above the ground.
Everyone got great looks. 14 PALM WARBLERS fed in the weedy field, but had
to be on the lookout because a male KESTREL kept diving at them from his
perch in the dead top of a large Maple tree.
Later as the birding group pulled into a restaurant parking lot a few miles
away another OSPREY did a fly over.
