Highlights of a hike around the Beaver Lake Trail were my FOS NORTHERN
PARULA, and a female WOOD DUCK with five ducklings. Interestingly I found the
Wood Duck family when I heard an outraged squawk - of course, Wood Ducks
always
sound like they are being murdered. However, then I noticed a Red-shouldered
Hawk flying upstream very low over the water, and the Wood Duck and five
young appeared very close in that vicinity. I couldn't see whether the hawk
was
carrying anything, but I suspect that the hawk may have made a pass at the
ducklings.
