The Pacific Loon continued today at Kerr Reservoir in Mecklenburg
County.  It was my pleasure to be joined by Jeff Blalock from South
Boston and we located the loon at the Palmer Point Recreation Area at 11
AM.  The bird was right off the point, the same area that it was found
last Saturday.  We viewed the bird for approximately 45 minutes.  It
turned out to be a 3 loon day because the Pacific Loon and the Common
Loons were joined by a Red-throated Loon.  Another excellent find was
the sighting of 3 Snow Buntings.  They were found at approximately 2 PM
along route 4 around the bend from the second lookout.  Great views were
enjoyed as they hung out among the rocks.  Other birds located today
included Horned Grebe, Pied-billed Grebe, Double-crested Cormorant,
Great Blue Heron, Canada Goose, Mallard, Bufflehead, Hooded Merganser,
Ruddy Duck, Bald Eagle, American Kestrel, Killdeer, Herring Gull,
Bonaparte's Gull, Belted Kingfisher, Red-headed Woodpecker, Eastern
Phoebe, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Cedar Waxwing, Yellow-rumped Warbler and
Song Sparrow.  Happy New Year and good birding.
