I visited Occoquan NWR this morning where I ran into Scott Priebe. Beautifully
clear, but windy. Highlights were redhead mixed in with a large scaup flock
off the intersection of Easy and Deephole Pt. Roads, 5 male wigeon in the marsh
adjacent to Charlie Rd., a large flock of wood ducks in the marsh near the
river, an osprey on the dock seen from the gazebo, over a dozen eagles, and
singing rusty blackbird along Deephole Pt. Rd. On one of the islands along the
shore, 9 eagles were perched on the beach or in the trees. At one point two
eagles were tussling over a fish on the ground, while 6 other were perched just
overhead watching, looking for all the world like a couple of gladiators duking
it out for the spectators. Here is a list of what we saw:
