It was a great day in Northern Virginia today. I birded with Tina Trice
and saw Mike Boatwright, Andy Walker, John Fox, Alan Schreck and Linda
Fields at the parking deck at Dulles. The SNOWY OWL was incredible as
it looked down on us from a light tower in the deck. Awesome bird Sue.
Tell whoever found it thanks from us.
The next stop was Huntley Meadows where Tina and I had great views of
the EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL. There was no sign of the white-fronted
goose despite a diligent search.
Last stop was Occoquan NWR where we spent the rest of the day hiking and
birding. We saw the GRAY CATBIRD and FOX SPARROW previously reported
but missed the Brown Thrasher. The best bird for me though was an
AMERICAN TREE SPARROW, a bird I really wanted to see because we don't
get them down here. It took until 4:45 PM to see it but it was right
where Mike Boatwright said it would be. Thanks Mike and good birding to
