As Fall approaches every birders attention turns to migration of warblers,
hawks, etc. We are fortunate to be in the migratory pathway of nighthawks and
this is the time I start to watch for them. Last year I had 8 nighthawks on
8/20, about 100 on 8/21 and 510 on 8/22/05.
So I began watching last night for one hour after 6:30PM and saw nothing.
Tonight between 7-7:20 PM I saw 23 nighthawks passing over our farm heading
South. This is a bit early compared to last year and I expect a large increase
in migrating nighthawks during the next 4-5 days.
