Hello VA-Birders:
Twenty members of the Northern Virginia Bird Club turned out this morning
for a chilly walk that Bob Klarquist and I led at Manassas National
Battlefield Park. We spent about a half hour in the woods east of the
Visitor Center and then drove to the Stone Bridge, from which walked north
along Bull Run, climbed uphill and headed west across the fields to Sparrow
Alley, and circled back to the parking lot via the boardwalk next to Route
29. Highlights of the morning were three Northern Harriers and a Common
Raven over the fields around Sparrow Alley, Pine Warblers and a Hermit
Thrush in the woods behind the Visitor Center (more Pine Warblers in the
woods fringing the fields west of the Stone Bridge), and a half dozen Fox
Sparrows high in the trees next to the boardwalk. A good many of the birds
we expected to see were missing, possibly because of the brisk wind. The
