Dear Seabirders,
We still have space on pelagic trips this weekend from Manteo aboard the
Country Girl. We have trips there on both Saturday and Sunday June 8
and 9. Each trip is $110/person, and you may sign up for either or both
trips.
Over the last two weekends, pelagic birding off the Outer Banks has been
outstanding. Our last trip from Manteo on May 31 found 16 species of
pelagic seabirds including Herald Petrel, Fea's Petrel, White-tailed
Tropicbird, Red-billed Tropicbird, Long-tailed Jaeger, and South Polar
Skua! I can't promise a day like that this weekend, but it is a good
time of year to see both tropicbirds and the rare Pterodromas. Our May
27 trip from Hatteras found two Fea's Petrels, on Herald Petrel and two
Bermuda Petrels! In all, we ran ten pelagic trips from Hatteras and
Manteo between May 24 and June 2. When I get a chance, I'll post the
lists to our Website, but between birding and charter fishing offshore
every day, things have been too hectic here over the last week.
