Hi Everyone,
Twenty-eight people took the challenge of identifying the bird I posted on
Saturday at this link http://www.pbase.com/mayhorn/image/117475130 ;
This is how the votes played out:
Bobolink 15
Worm-eating Warbler 5
Ovenbird 2
Lincoln's Sparrow 2
Nelson's or Leconte's Sparrow 1
Wilson Snipe 1
Dickcissel 1
Chilean Ant Finch 1 :)
The bird was a Bobolink. The field marks were the buffy, yellow chest with some
streaking on the sides, the dark head with the buffy median stripe and the pale
lores. I will leave it to others to say whether this is a juvenile or a
non-breeding adult bird. More photos of the bird taken from different angles
can be seen at http://www.pbase.com/mayhorn/bobolink_sept_2009 I couldn't
resist using the face-on photo. It gave the bird such an unusual expression.
Thanks to everyone who participated.
Enjoy the rest of the fall migration.
