Despite a couple of slow days at my place in Shenandoah County, I did have a
visit by a first fall male Mourning Warbler yesterday. He popped up in our
mock-orange bush beside our deck while I was having lunch. That was only the
second sighting of this species here in almost 26 years. The only other
warbler was a Worm-eating, which is a local nester. Both evenings I had a
couple of nighthawks, but I believe that I am too late by about a week for the
peak of their movement through our valley (Cedar Creek). I'm hoping for some
better birding after the several fronts pass through.
