The Mountain Bluebird was present from 0650 to about 0800 this morning but
has been elusive over the last hour or so. A flyover redpoll was also at that
site, and Mike Boatwright had several owls and woodcock in the area; a Red Bat
was actively feeding on Latimer's Siding Rd x Rte 600 (Seaside Road), where
Todd Day tells me there are upwards of 30-40 Cave Swallows feeding at this
moment (and 16 people watching them). Caves have been present all week around
Kiptopeke as well.
This morning, a Black-chinned Hummingbird - what seems to me a completely
typical bird - showed up in my sideyard (9 Randolph Avenue - turn left onto Rte
184 at the first Eastern Shore stoplight on Rte 13; come to last block, gray
house on right). Folks are welcome to watch the feeders from the side of the
front porch, no permission needed. Naturally, it'll be good to confirm this
bird through banding, but it has all the classic features of that species.
I'll
post more after I study the bird more through the day.
