VA BIRDers,
I checked through my records and came up with the following information:
6/19/98 Dulles Wetlands, Loudoun Co, Bev Leeuwenberg
7/3/87 Dyke Marsh, Frfx Co, var. obs.
7/17/00(? it may be 99) Airlie, Fauquier Co, Bill Sladen
7/17/89-8/10/89 Chantilly, Frfx Co, var. obs.
7/23/00(? it may be 99) Pohick Cr, Frfx Co, Julie Kutruff (Yes Bart, you are
on to something!)
ca. 9/1/89 Nokesville, Pr. Wm Co, Ken Bass
My records are admittedly somewhat spotty. If anyone has additional sighting
data (or corrections), please send it this way. Thanks!
As you can see, July comes up as the hot month to find these birds in our
neck of the woods. The birds seem to be found most often in out of the way
locations that are seldom visited by humans. I would not be surprised if
this species is a yearly regular visitor (re: rare) to our area!
