Hola,
On Sunday 6 August, Bob Abrams and Joan Boudreau discovered two Mississippi
Kites along US 29 at Buckland, which straddles the Fauquier and Prince William
County lines. One bird was an adult, the other was born last summer.
While driving between offices today, I stopped at the location and found
only the adult, and it never strayed into Fauquier County for the five minutes
I
was there.
There is a building on the southbound side of US 29 called Buckland Antiques
and Treasures (or something close), and next to it is Buckland Farm Stand.
There is ample parking here for anyone interested. There is also a couple
places on the northbound side of the road to park, but I don't know their
names.
If anyone does check out these birds, I'd love to hear how you fared. It's
a species that I've never seen in Fauquier, nor are there any records that I
know of, until yesterday.
Best,
Todd
