"That's an interesting crow soaring up there," I thought to myself as I
walked back toward the beginning of the boardwalk at about 11:00 a.m.
today. Then, as I got my binos on it, the outline -- arched leading
edge of the wings; longer and sharply delineated tail -- became more
kitelike; and then, as he obligingly came in for a closer look: "The
white head! -- Yes! He's back!"
Upon returning to the visitor's center, I learned that someone had seen
what they thought might be a kite on Friday at just about the same time;
so, after you No. Va. birders gather up all your a.m. warblers, you
might want to slip on over to Huntley for a first-of-the-summer gander at
the kite.
Good migratory birding!
