Three stalwart birders joined me for the weekly bird walk at Mason Neck
State Park this morning. Highlights included a BROWN CREEPER, at least four
adult and 3 sub-adult BALD EAGLES, a flashy GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, and
HERMIT THRUSHES that posed nicely for observation. The full list follows:
Great Blue Heron
Canada Goose
Scaup spp. (Lesser?)
Bald Eagle
Ring-billed Gull
Mourning Dove
Belted Kingfisher
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Blue Jay
Crow spp.
Carolina Chickadee
White-breasted Nuthatch
Brown Creeper
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Eastern Bluebird
Hermit Thrush
American Robin
White-throated Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Red-winged Blackbird
Common Grackle (300+)
A chilly, breezy but productive walk! The next MNSP bird walk meets at the
same time and place next Saturday: 9am at the Visitor Center, 7301 High
Point Road, Lorton, VA 22079.
Happy birding!
