Hello, birders.
During my eagle survey in a closed part of the refuge
on Sunday evening, I saw 2 Northern Harriers, one
adult female and one immature. They were flapping and
gliding over the Great Marsh. Common Grackles flew
over in two flocks, about 50 total. It's the first
time I've seen them flock up this (fall) season.
Ducks were common. It was hard to get a bead on
numbers but there were Mallards, Blacks and Woodies.
I heard a Green Heron, saw about 5 Great Blues and
about 15 Great Egrets.
Butterflies were abundant in the field near the survey
site. Most common were the Pearl Crescents.
3 Bald Eagles were seen, an adult pair and an
immature.
