Hello, birders.
I checked out the area near the horse stables on the north side of Rte. 29 at
Manassas Battlefield, birding from the stables to the highway on a mild but
foggy Sat. morning.
I briefly saw a Red-shouldered Hawk through the fog and heard another calling
nearby. I heard my first Hermit Thrush of the fall, and saw 2 Red-breasted
Nuthatches. Both kinglets sp. were present. Robins were common, with a few
Waxwings mixed in. I heard 2 Br. Creepers and got good looks at a House Wren
in the low branches of a small tree.
Lots of sparrows, mostly Song, with several Swamp, some Field, and one each of
Savannah, White-throat and Junco. Lots of Am. Crows were present, a few
Yel.-rumped Warblers chipped overhead and a couple of flocks of R.w. Blackbirds
flew overhead, too.
