I don't think it has been widely posted yet, but Barry Truitt, Ruth
Boettcher, and Alex Wilke saw a Long-billed Curlew at Chimney Pole Marsh just
west of
the northern end of Hog Island (the one on the Eastern Shore) on Friday, 14
November 2003. They saw it on a roost with 235 American Oystercatchers and a
few
Marbled Godwits. This area can be investigated by boat, most readily from
Willis Wharf, which is perhaps only 15-20 minutes from the marsh (it's a good
half-day outing by kayak, but the water has gotten chilly lately!). Birders
who scan the godwit/willet flocks at Willis Wharf should keep an eye peeled for
this stately wader; it's quite rare in the state, and it would be great if a
photograph were taken!
