We observed a single Lapland Longspur (in winter plumage) on Rte 719 a little
north of Rte 50 in Loudoun County on 1/20/03. It was in a flock of about 50
Horned Larks feeding in a horse field on the left side of the road.
To reach the area, head west on Rte.50 through Middleburg. About two miles
before you reach Upperville, turn right (north) onto Rte. 719 and watch on
the left for a stone wall and entrance driveway with a green mail box atop a
sizeable black wooden pole. This is private property, so please don't
trespass. If you reach the intersection with Rte 743, you have gone too far.
