Howdy all,
Yesterday turned out to be yet, another good day. The front came through
overnight and the north winds brought even more birds down. We had many
highlights
on the day that started very quickly. Our first net run at 6:45am produced 75
birds alone. We ended the day with 139 birds of 26 species. A very good total
for this early in September. Here are some of the birds caught today:
BLACKBURNIAN, BAY-BREASTED, NASHVILLE, BLUE-WINGED, and CHESTNUT-SIDED
WARBLERS,
GREAT-CRESTED FLYCATCHER, and a female(!!) COOPER'S HAWK! I am not sure how the
Coopers Hawk stayed in our finely messed nets!
Here is the list for 9/3:
American Redstart 50 most numerous species by far
Magnolia Warbler 2
Prairie Warbler 1
Nashville Warbler 1
Blue-winged Warbler 1
Common Yellowthroat 9
Black-and-white Warbler 17 thats a big day for them!
Black-throated Blue Warbler 4
Bay-breasted Warbler 1
Blackburnian Warbler 1 only the second one banded
since 2001
Northern Waterthrush 3
Ovenbird 7
Chestnut-sided Warbler 1
Yellow-breasted Chat 1 that makes 14 species of
warblers on the day!!
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher 4
Least Flycatcher 2
Traill's Flycatcher 15
Great-crested Flycatcher 1
Eastern Wood-pewee 1
Field Sparrow 1
Blue Grosbeak 1
Red-eyed Vireo 7
Veery 3
Carolina Wren 1
Baltimore Oriole 3
Cooper's Hawk 1 not a species we catch
every year
TOTAL ---------------------- 139
I am not sure what to make of the 9/4. I am hoping the wind is calm at least
for the first few hours of the day. If it is, we might have another decent
day. Guess we will find out shortly!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
