Howdy all,
Today was a nice day on the shore for banding. We had 22 species today which is
quite good for this time of year. We ended the day with a total of 198
individuals banded. And better yet, we added another species for the season! We
caught a Pine Siskin in with a small flock of Goldfinches! It is the first
Siskin banded here since 1999.
Totals for the day:
Golden-crowned Kinglet 4
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler 131
Yellow Palm Warbler 1
Western Palm 2
American Goldfinch 11 not as many around today compared
to yesterday
Red-breasted Nuthatch 1
Pine Siskin 1 new for the season, 106th
species!
Eastern Phoebe 1
Slate-colored Junco 1
Field Sparrow 10
Chipping Sparrow 3
Swamp Sparrow 2
Savannah Sparrow 2
Song Sparrow 10
White-throated Sparrow 5
Blue-headed Vireo 1
Tufted Titmouse 1
Hermit Thrush 5
Gray Catbird 1
Northern Cardinal 1
American Robin 3
TOTAL --------------------------- 198
I am not sure what the next few days is going to bring. The weather seems a
little up in the air. I hope it brings in more birds and not too much rain.
Sparrows have been good this year and it would be nice to keep catching them
for a while longer.
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
