Howdy all,
Sorry if I sound like I am about to boil over but I think I am! We had a huge
day at the banding station this morning and early afternoon! We ended up
banding a total of 661 birds!!
Yes, that's right! 661!!
The YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS showed up in a hurry! They made up the bulk of
the numbers but we still managed to catch 30 species today!
The highlights include both KINGLETS, our third COOPER'S HAWK, four species
of THRUSHES including a late VEERY. It was also nice to catch CHESTNUT-SIDED
and BLACKPOLL WARBLERS today as well.
We also broke the old 12 year high on GRAY CATBIRDS today as well. We banded
64 of them, giving us 626 catbirds for the season. The old high was 599.
We are all beat right now but we will be game again in the morning!
