Hola Birders,
Hawks fly at Kiptopeke sometimes. The morning flight was good today with nice
numbers of Sharpies and then Coopers. We reached a season high on Turkey
Vultures and Redtails today as well. Perhaps most interesting was the morning
flight of Passerines. Several thousand Blue Jays passed along wing a thousand
Robins and several thousand Blackbirds. This all stopped by 11:30am. Pine
Siskins were heard repeatedly today along with a nice Hairy Woodpecker calling
furiously in the nearby Cedar. Here's the breakdown for the day:
BLVU: 21
TUVU: 142 (Season High)
OSPR: 1
BAEA: 2
NOHA: 14
SSHA: 89
COHA: 70
RSHA: 1
RTHA: 13 (Season High)
AMKE: 11
MERL: 15
PEFA: 9
Total: 388
So another slow day overall. I'd like to see some more raptors anytime now!
So burry that cat at the crossroads, do a little dance, make a sacrificial
offering. I don't care what, just get the Sharpies rolling here!
Feel free to check out www.hawkcount.org for more detailed count info for this
site and your other local Virginia Hawkwatch sites.
Alright peace
Good day and good birding,
-Sam
