Howdy all,
Today turned out to be an ok day if you look at having birds for three groups
of high schoolers but ugly in the way of diversity. We banded a total of 16
birds but 14 of them were GRAY CATBIRDS. We did have a few recaptures that they
got to see that were non-catbirds, however. One of them was a foreign
recapture too! That was exciting! It was a BROWN THRASHER.
Out side of that, I sure hope it gets better and the rains actually do come
soon. We need it here bad. The next few days look wet but I have heard that
before from the weathermen. Guess we will see.
Here is the list of birds banded today 10/5:
Gray Catbird 14
Ovenbird 1
American Redstart 1
TOTAL ------------------ 16 yes, only banded 3 species.
I do hope this is the calm before the storm. The last five days, we have only
banded 108. Pretty ugly. I have tried to avoid doing it, but I guess I will
have to break down and do the "bring the birds" dance tonight. It's pretty
scary, but this is an extreme case. The birding festival is right around the
corner!! I sure hope everybody has made plans to come to the festival. I am
hoping
that the weather is better than the forecast is predicting! Looks rather ugly
for netting birds.
Hope to see you all soon!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
