Larry Meade and I bumped into Charlotte and Julie (we can't go on meeting
like this) at Occoquan Bay NWR in Woodbridge this morning. We circumambulated
by
way of Charlie, Bravo, Deephole Rd. and Easy St. looking, in particular, for
rails. We managed to locate 2 King Rails on Easy St as we headed back to the
parking lot from Deephole Point. The first was on the right where Easy St.
crosses the gut of Catamont Creek. The second was appprox 200 yards past the
gut
on the opposite side of the road. Other birds of note were a few small groups
of Tree Swallows - about 12 in all...one lone Fox Sparrow... We found 2 Am.
Wigeon, 6 Black Ducks, 2 GW Teal, 1 Coot all in the shallows along Charlie Road
-
off the point we counted about 80 RB Mergs, 2 PB Grebes and one lone Horned
Grebe...Rich Rieger
