The rain ended just early enough to convince me to get out of bed, and I'm
glad I did. It was a nice morning on the Hike/Bike Trail, particularly if
you were a raptor. A merlin was eating something smallish in the "flicker
tree" in the field to the right of the platform. (Wish I had brought my
scope . . . .) I also saw it flying around several times. Maybe it will
stick around for a while. I also saw a Coop twice carrying something big (a
flicker?). The other highlight was twice flushing woodcock to the left of
the platform. Really good numbers of kinglets, too. Other notables:
Wood duck 3
RS hawk 1
Flicker 15 (alive)
Hermit thrust 2
Yellow-rump 9
Palm 2 (yellow)
Song sparrow 18
Swamp 4
White-throated 35
Junco 6
Chipping 4
Field 5
Towhee 1
