What a difference a warm day and a visit to the
Coastal Plain makes. At Huntley Meadows yesterday
morning, a BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, SCARLET
TANAGER, OVENBIRD and ALL 4 VIREOS (minus the late and
scarce Philly) were present. Also seen was an
AMERICAN BITTERN on the edge of the far side of the
wetland.
I spoke to another birder who had visited Huntley the
day before. I know that he said that the BTG, Tanager
and REV weren't there on Saturday. I forget if we
discussed the other songbirds above.
Waterfowl and shorebirds were present, too. Lots of
frogs and turtles incl. 2 Spotted Turtles.
I wonder what birders saw on this morning's Huntley
walk?
An early afternoon visit to Monticello Park in
Alexandria produced less activity and shorter distance
migrants.
