I was at Huntley Meadows (Fairfax County) this morning from about 6am to 9am.
60 species total. At 7am I met up with the regularly-scheduled birdwalk. Not
exactly a flood of warblers, but amongst those present, the group tallied
YELLOW-RUMPED, PALM, NORTHERN PARULA, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, and OVENBIRD. Other
birds of note included 13 fly-over COMMON LOONS (groups of 11, 2, and one
solo), a raucous group of LAUGHING GULLS (35-40), 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, all 7
woodpeckers (3 adult RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were seen cavorting together - has
anyone had a higher count?), and one AMERICAN KESTREL. A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD
in the main marsh was a bit unusual. A singing HERMIT THRUSH near the
visitor's center was my personal highlight. A complete list of my sightings
