Weather:
Day started with no wind, increasing to maybe 4-5 mph at most out of WNW.
Temp (High): 19C
Humidity: started at 48% decreasing to 20% then increasing to 42%
Cloud cover: started out with mostly sunny then increasing cloud cover to
overcast with threat of rain by 2:30 p.m. EST.
Observations:
Wind never picked up and with increasing cloud cover, not much moving
today.
Golden Eagle, immature, was observed north of the gap at 9:06 EST but it
turned north.
Merlin, adult male at 8:28 a.m. EST
Wilson's Warbler up close at 9 a.m. EST (This may be the first fall record
for site)

Blue Jay - 32+
Chimney Swift - still pushing through - 56+
Hummingbird! one zipped by close at 12:11 p.m. EST; noted quite a bit of
color on this bird and not certain it was a Ruby-throat.
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - first of the season, flew up to restaurant
window and up over corner of bldg.
Northern Flicker - 1
But the most impressive sighting was the "V" formation of 150+ DC
Cormorant that flew very low directly overhead heading south at 3 p.m.
EST.

The Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch is held on the grounds of the Inn at Afton, located
on the southern side of Rockfish Gap in the Blue Ridge Mountains, just above
where I-64 (exit 99) intersects with the southern end of the Skyline Drive and
the northern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway, just east of Waynesboro, VA and
approximately 22 miles west of Charlottesville, VA.
