Weather:
Gorgeous Indian Summer day.
Very light southerly breeze prevailed throughout the morning becoming more
variable by midday. There was a light upper level wind detected by midday
coming more out of the NW.
Light cirrus clouds disappeared by midday making it very difficult in
spotting high flying specs. Cloud cover returned by late afternoon.
Temperature (high) 23C
Humidity 34% increasing to 41%
Light haze out of the valley to the west.
Observations:
The soaring/sailing Red-tails were tiny specs, very difficult to spot and
then quickly disappearing in less than a blink of an eye. One group of 10
found, with many small groups of 3-4 at a time. Bulk of RTs between 10-2
p.m. (41). Sharp-shinned continue in small numbers all except 1 moving
through by 1 p.m.
Hopefully we will have covereage this upcoming week as this is nearing our
peak season for Red-tail migration.
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Eastern Bluebird
Dark-eyed Junco
American Goldfinch - several small groups heading south
Cedar Waxwing - quite a few (200+)
With things heating up, butterflies and insects on the move.
Monarch Butterfly - 6
Walking Stick - 1
Catydid - 2
Dragonfly - 1
Predictions:
Repeat from today and possibly few degrees cooler.
