Jay Keller, Larry Meade and I had a host of good birds this morning, the best
being a glossy ibis that flew over us as we walked along Easy Rd. at Occoquan
Bay NWR in Woodbridge at around 11am. Other notable birds at Occoquan were
blue-winge teal, common loon (3), great egret, Bonaparte's gull (5), Caspian
(14) and Forster's terns (3), king rail (one ran across Charlie Rd.) and vesper
sparrow. Earlier, we birded Cockpit Pt. and Possum Pt. roads. Highlights
there were 6 warbler species (palm (2), northern parula, pine, black-and-white
(2), yellow-throated (4) and Louisiana waterthrush (3)), ring-necked duck,
tundra swan, turkey, hermit thrush (3), golden-crowned kinglet, and kestrel.
We saw over 80 species in all.
