Hey, Ned. You asked for "welcome friendly, intelligent communication
on the matter"
I'm sorry to be completely misquoted by Paula Sullivan here. I suggested
that people write the new Executive Director, Jeff Holland, of whom I said on 4
January:
There is a new Executive Director of the CBBT, as most of you know: Jeffrey
B. Holland, who is quite young (mid-30s) and very pleasant. He has not been
involved in past meeting on the birding issue but will be this year. I'm sure
that he would welcome friendly, intelligent communication on the matter at:
Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel District
32386 Lankford Highway
Post Office Box 111
Cape Charles, VA 23310
fax:
(757) 331-4565
++++
Also, I have never said about Paul Kane's ideas, or anyone else's, that they
would not be included in future discussions. Rather, I have said that the
Committee's efforts have consistently been in the direction of greatest access
and lowest cost - and that they will continue to be. To be misunderstood in
this is frustrating, to say the least. If listserv participants who are new
to the discussion wish to be caught up on the history of this problem,
including some of the aspects not posted publically (because of their
sensitivity for
security matters), then I think it's not a problem for them to contact people
who have been working on this matter to learn about the past 10 months. I
will state here that it's not fun to get private email that take personal
potshots that have no basis in fact or common sense. I can't respond to them
on
this listserv because they are not posted here, but I have to say that I
thought
very highly of the birding community in Virginia before taking on this CBBT
work, and my opinion of some of its members has not remained high throughout
the process. Though we have lost a great deal already, we can lose still more
- and we gain nothing for ourselves or for our birding community by making
unpleasant and personal remarks.
